All 5 of county’s public districts seek candidates

Perhaps they’re keeping their cards close to the vest before the filing deadline, but Wayne County doesn’t appear to be flush with school board candidates.
Those interested in serving on five Wayne County’s school boards have a little more than two weeks to get on the fall ballot.
Filing started on July 27, and as of press time, two candidates have filed the required paperwork with Wayne County election officials to run for the 12 seats on the ballot.
Incumbent Phil Pflum filed last week in hopes of returning to his at-large seat on Western Wayne’s school board. During the first three days of filing, Centerville-Abington’s Brad Lambright sought re-election for his at-large seat.
The filing deadline for school board candidates is noon Aug. 26.
Indiana School Boards Association offers a memo outlining the requirements for prospective school board candidates at web.isba-ind.org/news/NewsArticleDisplay.aspx?articleid=1090.
The organization also is offering a virtual forum for prospective candidates on Aug. 11 to learn more about what is required. Pre-registration is needed.
Prospective school board candidates must file forms that are available from county clerks’ offices or on the Indiana Election Division’s website at www.in.gov/sos/elections/candidate-information/ to get on the ballot.
That paperwork must be delivered to their county’s voter registration office in the courthouse, 301 E. Main St. in Richmond, which is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. For more information, prospective candidates can call (765) 973-9226.
