RICHMOND, Ind. – Gary Alan Newton, age 64, of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Wright-Patterson Medical Center.

Born July 21, 1953, in Connersville, Indiana, to Herbert Clifford and Ernestine Witt Newton, Gary had lived in both Fayette and Wayne County. He served in the Army National Guard, retiring as a Sergeant First Class. Gary also drove for the Amish community. He was a former member of Warren Masonic Lodge No. 15, F. & A.M. and AMVETS Post #11, both in Connersville. Gary was a member of the Jacksonburg Christian Church. As a bee keeper, he enjoyed taking care of his bees and giving honey to his family and friends. Gary was also an avid hunter, who especially liked coon hunting and going on special hunting trips with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Sheryl Ann Downing Newton; daughters, Rachel M. (Bryan) Williams and Kimberly A. (Tom) Roberts; step-daughters, Dena (Mat) Baker and Jessica (Cody) Becker; grandchildren, Noah, Luke, and Grace Williams, Kaitlynn (Taylor) Orr, and Ethan and Elise Roberts; step-grandchild, Gavin Becker; two great-grandchildren; mother, Ernestine Newton; brothers, Kenneth (Karen) Newton and James Newton; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, including many special friends in the Amish community.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation for Gary Alan Newton will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Jacksonburg Christian Church, 12210 Jacksonburg Road, Cambridge City, Indiana. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 12, 2018, at Jacksonburg Christian Church with Stan Eastman officiating. Burial will be in Jacksonburg Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
