HAGERSTOWN: Frederick Allen Boyd, or better known as Fred, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, May 24, 2019, as the result of an accidental fall.

He was a son of the late Gerald and Ellen Harris Boyd. He was born in New Castle on July 26, 1944 and was a 1963 graduate of Straughn High School. He was preceded in death by his wife Randi Gauker Boyd, as well as his brothers Howard, Larry and Rick Boyd.

Fred enjoyed the outdoors and hunting excursions with his good friends. He served as an Army Reservesman from 1964-1970. He would continue his service to the Country by placing flags on veteran’s gravesites every Memorial Weekend, as well as serving in the Honor Guard at over 150 funeral and community events, in most recent years through the American Legion Post 333. Fred retired from tool and die making after 42 years with the Dana Corp. and worked on guns and had a gun shop as a hobby for many years.

Survivors include his 5 children: Rhonda Boyd-Alstott (Tony) of New Albany, IN., Robin Deibis (Todd) of Phoenix, Arizona, Rodney Boyd (Paula) of Cambridge City, Indiana, Ryan Mosier (Tracy) of Hagerstown, Indiana, Traci Hinsky of Hagerstown, Indiana, and brothers Gene Boyd of Brownsburg, Indiana, and Randy Boyd (Jennifer) of Milton, Indiana. He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Per Fred’s request, a private ceremony will be held at a later date.
