As announced before 1 a.m. Thursday, ISP has identified the suspect in the shooting of Richmond Police Department Officer Seara Burton as 47-year-old Phillip M. Lee of Richmond.

At 7 a.m. Thursday, ISP corrected the spelling of Lee’s first name, adding one “L.”

Police have not issued an update on Burton’s health as of Thursday morning. During a Wednesday night press conference at the shooting scene at North 12th and C streets, she was described as being in “very critical condition.” Richmond Police Department Chief Mike Britt was among those asking for prayers for her.

Just before 4 a.m., Wayne County Jail staff announced that its daily list of new suspects who were added to the jail population did not include Lee because he had not been booked into the jail.

Indiana Department of Corrections records show Lee had a projected release date of Dec. 31, 2021, on a charge of possession of syringes or needles. He had been sentenced to four years for the Level 6 felony.

In May 2018, Lee had been sentenced to a year on a charge of possession of cocaine or narcotic drug.
