DUBLIN – Delbert Vickers Sr., 84, passed away Thursday evening July 18, 2019 at Rosebud Village in Richmond, Indiana.

A son of the late Charlie and Flora (Fox) Vickers, Delbert was born in McKee, Jackson County, Kentucky, on September 11, 1934. Delbert was raised in McKee, Kentucky and moved to Wayne County, Indiana, in the 1960s.

He worked as an electric lineman and truckdriver before his employment in the maintenance department at H-H Robertson in Connersville and Swayne-Robinson in Richmond from where he retired.

He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. In his leisure, Delbert enjoyed target shooting, metal detecting and fishing. He also enjoyed animals and could make a pet out of anything.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Robin Devan and Linda Steele, both of Richmond; 3 grandsons, Stephen (Renee) Vickers of Arkansas, C.J. Devan of Connecticut and Christopher (Charlotte) Steele of Connersville: 1 great-granddaughter, Gracie Vickers; 4 siblings, James (Marilyn) Vickers of Cambridge City, Haley Reese, Faye (Glen) Reese, Annalee Pendleton and Ima Jean Eversole all of Kentucky; nieces and nephews.

Delbert was preceded in death by his wife, the former Elzona Mae Sparks, on June 29, 2017. They were married on September 3, 1955 in McKee, Kentucky; son, Delbert Vickers Jr. on June 21, 2018; grandson, Travis Steele, on September 23, 1986; 2 brothers, Lowell and Oscar Vickers; 2 half- brothers, Virgil and Dorcie Vickers; half-sister, Thelma Wright.

Visitation will be from 1 – 4 p.m. on Monday July 22, 2019, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin.

The family would like to thank the staff at Rosebud Village for the comfort and care provided to their dad during his stay with them.
