Abigail “Abby” Evelyn McFeely, 50, Connersville, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis after a brief and sudden illness. She was surrounded by family and received her Last Rites from Fr. Jude, hospital chaplain.
Abby was born on December 31, 1969 in Richmond, Indiana, where she grew up with her brothers and sisters on Main Street, just five blocks from downtown. She was baptized at Holy Family Catholic Church and remained faithful throughout her life. She graduated from Connersville High School in 1989. She studied at Indiana State University, Earlham College and Indiana University East before earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities.
The most important thing in Abby’s life was her love of her Catholic faith. She was very active at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, where she was devoted to Adoration of the Eucharist, served as a Minister of Holy Communion, Daughters of Isabella, Peace by Pieces Quilters and volunteered in many other ministries. Abby had also recently become a member of the Third Order of Benedictines at St. Meinrad ArchAbbey, where she enjoyed many religious retreats.
Abby also enjoyed reading the Wall Street Journal, watching EWTN and reruns of the Johnny Carson show and telling good jokes. She spent many hours with her friends in Connersville, including a devout group of Euchre players who gathered weekly to play. Abby was a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and one of the highlights of her life was taking a trip to Pittsburgh with friends for a spirituality conference, giving her a chance to see the City where her favorite NFL team plays.
Abby is survived by her brothers Mike McFeely, Connersville, and Dan (and Sue) McFeely, Carmel; her sisters Margaret (and Tony) Swogger, Connersville, and Samantha (and Chad) Lamar, Carmel; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Maxine McFeely; her sister, Catherine; her grandparents, Charles and Waneta Anderson; and her paternal grandparents, William and Mary McFeely.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, followed by interment of ashes at Dale Cemetery. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, the funeral is limited to family members only. There will be no public calling but the family is planning a celebration of Abby’s life this fall in Connersville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Miller Moster Robbins Funeral Home in Connersville is in charge of arrangements.
