Alan Richard Arnold, 93 of Connersville passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022. He was born on July 2, 1928 to Floyd Clark Arnold and Mary Elizabeth Whipple Arnold.

Alan was a 1946 graduate of Connersville High School. Alan served in the United States Army from 1951 until 1954 as a medic during the Korean War.

On June 1, 1952 he married Nelda Barks at Central Christian Church in Connersville. Together they were blessed with 2 children. They were able to spend nearly 61 years together before she passed away on March 25, 2014.

Alan was a member of Central Christian Church where he served on numerous boards as a deacon, elder and a board chair. He also was a Sunday school teacher.

Alan worked at Ford Motor Company for 30 years before retiring. He had also worked at JcPenny, Fayette Regional Hospital and for Singer Sewing.

Alan was a member of the Warren Lodge #15 F & AM, he was extremely involved within the lodge. He earned his York Rite, Commandery and was also an Eastern Star and on the Temple Board. He took pride in being a tour guide of the Elmhurst for many years.

Alan was a trainer for the National Weather Service as well as a spotter for many years. He was a part of the Civil defense and the emergency management teams with the National Weather service. Alan served on the advisory board for several years. He was also an Eagle Scout and a Little League volunteer. The Fayette County community was very important to Alan he was very involved through the community in various ways. Alan was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army and many years he filled in for Santa Claus. He was also a Ham radio operator.

When Alan wasn’t at the Elmurst or serving the community, you could often find him on the golf course where he was proud of his 5 hole in ones. He also enjoyed going sailing. Most importantly he loved going out to eat with his family and friends. He always enjoyed having a great conversation.

Alan will be greatly missed by his children, Leah An Wolfe and Brian (Karen) Arnold and a grandson, Steven Arnold.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nelda.

Visitation for Alan will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2022 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W. 8th St. Connersville, Indiana 47331. A Masonic and Eastern Star memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm on Sunday evening. The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 11, 2022 at 11:00 am at Central Christian Church, 800 Central Ave., Connersville with Pastor Greg Marvel officiating. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery.
