Obituaries - Allen M. Hawkins

Allen M. Hawkins, age 75, of Centerville, Indiana, went to be with Christ on Friday, July 28, 2017, at Reid Health.

Born September 30, 1941, in Franklin, Indiana, to Loren and Dorothy Rodewig Hawkins, Allen lived in Centerville for most of his life. He graduated from Edinburgh High School. Allen earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University and master’s degree from Indiana University. He coached and taught for 35 years in a variety of subjects including business, accounting, typing, and physical education at Coal City, West Washington, Reelsville, Centerville, Preble Shawnee, and Northeastern. Allen coached basketball with Del Harris and basketball camps with Bob Knight for more than 20 years. He worked at the Richmond Eye Center for 16 years after retiring from teaching. Allen served on the Centerville School Board from 1985-1993. He was a member of Centerville Christian Church since 1969, where he was an elder, taught Sunday School, and worked with the youth group. Allen was also a member of the Centerville Classic Car Club. He loved gardening, biking, sports, and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jana Cornwell Hawkins of Centerville; sons, Greg (Charity) Hawkins of Richmond, Indiana, and Aaron (Michelle) Hawkins of Columbia, South Carolina; grandchildren, Grayson, Katherine, and Caroline; brothers, Gene Hawkins of Edinburgh, Indiana, and Phillip Hawkins of Arizona; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold Hawkins.

Visitation for Allen M. Hawkins will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Centerville Christian Church, 111 North Morton Avenue, Centerville. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Centerville Christian Church with Pastor Ryan McCarty officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, Centerville.
