Thomas I. Rankin, age 83, formerly of Richmond, Indiana, died Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Ft. Thomas Hospital in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Born December 3, 1937, in Rushville, Indiana, to Russell and Viola Lucas Rankin, Tom lived in Richmond most of his life. He graduated from Manilla High School in Manilla, Indiana.
Ruby Carroll Black, 81 of Richmond passed away in her home, October 18, 2021. She was born August 17, 1940, in Garrett Co., Kentucky to Albert and Ruby Pruitt Powell and lived in this area most of her life. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her five sons, Gordon (Cathy) Black, Charles Black, James (Brenda) Black, Kenneth (Sally) Black, Albert (Patricia) Black, two daughters Sharron (Micah Sr.) Mann, Carolyn (Kenneth) Thomas; twenty-nine grandchildren Amanda, Brandy, Candy, Eugenia, Charles Jr., Tommy, Sierra, Mindy, RJ, James Jr., Jeremy, Tiffany, Vicki, Jerry, Kenny Jr., Silvia, Ashly, Jesse, Cody, Michelle, Micah Jr., Trina, Samantha, Chastity, Jacob, Elaine, Dustin, Marvin, Brandi, eighty-four great and great-great-grandchildren; three sisters Evelyn Blevins, Nan (JC) Jones, Wanda Powell, several nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Billy who died in 2007, one granddaughter Shannon Harris, three great-great-grandsons, Isaac, Dylan, Oliver, one brother Bobby Wayne Coyle, two sisters Betty Bond, and Oma Cook.
Brian S. Minton, of Jacksonville, Arkansas, passed away on October 13, 2021. He was born on February 22, 1979 to Scott Minton and Marilyn (Mike) Petty. Brian was employed at Wright Cabinet Shop. He loved fishing and NASCAR especially a Dale Earnhardt Sr., Dale Jr. and Tony Stewart fan. Brian also loved his family and friends.
Keith “Frank” Wayne Coddington, 61, passed away on Monday, October 18. Keith was born on December 14, 1959, in New Castle, Indiana to Ronald L. and Lucille F. Bane Coddington. He was a 1978 graduate of Northeastern High School where he played on many athletic teams including the school’s first football team. Keith formerly worked at Joseph Hill & Company, Hoosier Container and Carter Lumber. Keith always had a smile on his face and was always there to encourage others.
Nuell Ellison Garner, age 74, a New Castle resident, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at his residence. He was born August 2, 1947, in New Castle, Indiana, a son of the late Jesse L. and Clariene (Teal) Garner. Nuell was a graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School and served for the US Army in the Vietnam War. He continued to serve at the New Castle Armory National Guard. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in 2003 and was a member of the UAW local#371.
Kavan Joseph Rust, 3 months, of New Castle passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, October 20, 2021 at his home. He was born July 12, 2021 in New Castle, Indiana, a son of Adam and Karlee (Swim) Rust. Even though Kavan’s life was short he touched the lives and hearts of everyone that met him. In addition to his parents, Kavan is survived by a sister, Adalee; maternal grandparents, Stephen & Jennifer Swim and Jennifer & Jeremy Showalter; paternal grandparents, Tami Rust & William Rust; great grandparents, Barbara Rust & Vicky Rust, Stephen & April Swim, Tom & Barbara Nipp and Jeanette Stewart; aunts & uncles, Meagan & Andrew Rust, Kindsey & Jacob Hamm and Makaelin & Austin Helms; along with 5 cousins. He was preceded in death by great grandparents, Paul Rust, Earl & Patricia Reed, Max & Judy James, Annabelle Wilson and Frank Stewart.
Phyllis K. McNelis, age 91, a New Castle resident, passed away Friday, October 15, 2021 at Heritage House of New Castle following a brief illness. She was born February 16, 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Val and Katherine Kruger. Phyllis was a high school graduate in Pittsburg, Pa., and had been a resident of New Castle since 1963. She and her late husband, James McNelis, owned and operated McNelis Wood Specialties located in New Castle for many years. Phyllis had also worked for the New Castle State Hospital and was a caregiver to many people.
Debbie Wagers, age 65, resident of New Castle, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021. She was born July 19, 1956 in Indianapolis, Indiana, a daughter of Thorton Pike Anderson and Evelyn Leath. She married her true soul mate, Ray Wagers on April 6, 1986. Debbie’s hobbies include enjoying her bird, Sunshine, and her dog, Brusier. She loved visiting old cemeteries and anything haunted.
Geneva Jones, age 92, a New Castle resident, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Glen Oaks Nursing Home. She was born June 28, 1929 in Oneida, Tennessee, a daughter of Jarvis Clitwood and Ellen Blankenship. Geneva had worked in the kitchen of the State Hospital for 25 years before retiring in 1994. She is survived by a son, Jesse (Lana) Jones, New Castle, In., a daughter, Patricia Myers (Glenn) Pace of Florida; two granddaughters; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents; nine brothers and sisters.
Allen Lee Stewart, age 71, New Paris, Ohio, passed away October 18, 2021 with his sons at his side, another victim of the Covid virus. Allen was born November 6, 1949 to Dale and Myrtle Stewart. He graduated from Jefferson High School in New Paris in 1967.Allen worked at Dana Corporation and retired from there after many years. Allen enjoyed working in his barn on projects of all sorts. He loved his old movie collection and TV shows, watching each as if it was the first time he had seen them.
