Richmond, IN – Bonnie J. Pierson, age 73, of Richmond, Indiana, died Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Reid Health.
Born February 15, 1944, in Lakeland, Florida, to Lester and Betty Wissler Whitton, Bonnie was a life-long resident of Richmond.
She graduated from Richmond High School in 1962 and Ball State University in 1968 with a master’s degree in education. Bonnie was called to teach She taught every age from pre-school to college. Bonnie began her teaching career at Centerville-Abington in 1966. Most recently she taught math at Ivy Tech in Richmond. At one time she worked at Trueblood Nursery School. For many years she substituted in Richmond school system, mostly in elementary schools. She also was a Sunday school teacher and vacation Bible school director at several churches in Richmond through the years including Calvary Baptist, Ravinia Park Baptist, Trinity Baptist, and Faith Baptist. Bonnie was a member of Fountain City Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed playing cards at the Richmond Senior Center.
Survivors include her daughters, Debbie S. Pierson and Sharon (Steve) Brown, both of Richmond, and Sarah (John) Thomas of Frankfort, Kentucky; son, Tim (Niki) Pierson of Richmond; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Pat Luebbe of Richmond; brother, Tom (Carol) Whitton of Fenton, Missouri; nieces; nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Pierson who died October 7, 1997; one unborn child; and parents.
Visitation for Bonnie J. Pierson was from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2017, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2017, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor David Anderson officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Losantville, Indiana.
