Brenda Van Winkle Bowmer, age 69, of Centerville, Indiana, died Sunday, November 11, 2018, at her home.
Born January 3, 1949, in Richmond, Indiana, to Earl and Sophia Abrams Van Winkle, Brenda was a life-long resident of Wayne County. She was a 1967 graduate of Richmond High School and earned her nursing degree in 1992. Brenda retired as a registered nurse from Richmond State Hospital after 28 years of service, where she was passionate about her work and toward the residents and her coworkers. Brenda attended Freedom Missionary Baptist Church and greatly enjoyed her BSF group. She was a collector of Longaberger baskets and liked to travel. Brenda especially looked forward to going on annual vacations with Christopher. She was self-sacrificing and a mother figure to many and continuously provided for the needs of everyone in her life. Brenda always made sure that holidays and family occasions were special. She was a very giving and loving person, who will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Mark Bowmer; son, Christopher Kemp of Centerville; sisters, Marsha Anderson of New Paris, Ohio, and Beverly Mauller of Hagerstown, Indiana; brothers, Lanny Van Winkle of Liberty, Indiana, and Farron Van Winkle of Richmond; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation for Brenda Van Winkle Bowmer will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Brandon O’Keefe officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Richmond.
