Steven Earl Schraub

Steven Earl Schraub, 57, of Middletown, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Kettering Medical Center. He was born in Middletown on September 25, 1962 to parents, Henry and Gladys J. (Hawkins) Schraub. Steven graduated from Preble Shawnee High School and then attended Miami University. He was an avid photographer and co-owner of Horizon Photography Studio from 1984 – 1993. He had worked for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Mound Laboratories from 1992 – 2006 and currently had been a Carpenter Specialist in the Multi Trades Shop at Miami University Oxford, Ohio for the past 12 years.

Mary A. (Hopkins) Rohe

Mary A. (Hopkins) Rohe, age 97, of Richmond passed away Wednesday (April 1, 2020) at Reid Health. Mary was born on July 20, 1922 in Webster, Indiana to Charles and Hallie Hopkins. She enjoyed sewing and gardening. Mary was a member of Richmond Fire Department Ladies Auxillary. Survivors include children Mark (Pat) Rohe of Richmond and Nancy (Gary) Klemann of Buffalo, NY; grandchildren Kelley (Adam) Shaver of Lockport, NY, Thomas Klemann of Goose Creek, SC, Mary Kristin (David) Wesolowski of Williamsville, NY, Jason (Stacey) Rohe of Williamsburg, IN and Jessica Yount of Webster, IN; brother Russell of Port Charlotte, Florida; great grandchildren Wayne Yount, Alizah Rankin, Estella Rohe, Ella Wesolowski,, Abby Wesolowski and Jake Wesolowski.

Gail Jean Bowman

Gail Jean (Manifold) Bowman, 80, of Hagerstown, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. She was born August 22, 1939 to Wilbur and Nancy (Barlow) Manifold of New Lisbon. She married Dan Bowman April 18, 1959 who preceded her in death in 2018. Gail was a graduate of New Lisbon High School Class of 1957 and McConnell’s Airline School of Minneapolis.

Edith Elizabeth Meyer

Edith Elizabeth Meyer, aged 97, died surrounded by loved ones on April 5th, 2020 at The Springs Nursing Home in Richmond. Edith was born May 22nd 1922 just outside of Milton, Indiana to James and Susan May, the fifth of six children. She graduated from Milton High School in 1940. She remained a lifelong resident. She married Joseph Meyer on May 23rd 1942 prior to his being deployed overseas to serve in WWII.

Kenneth Lee “Kenny” Ray

Kenneth Lee “Kenny” Ray, age 79, of Richmond, Indiana, died Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. He had bravely fought and beat cancer, but the treatments eventually beat him. Born October 31, 1940, in Richmond, Indiana, to Hendren Sr. and Vergie Middleton Ray, Kenny lived in Richmond most of his life. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1959. Kenny retired from Tom Raper RV, where he worked in sales for over 20 years, and previously worked at Fred First Ford.

Beverly Ann Cox

RICHMOND, Ind. – Beverly Ann Cox, age 89, of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, March 29, 2020, at Friends Fellowship Community. Born June 17, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Leon T. and Juanita Wickett Cox, Beverly lived most of her life in Fountain City, Indiana, and Richmond. She was a 1948 graduate of Richmond High School. Beverly graduated from Earlham College in 1952 and earned her master’s degree in education from Ball State University.

Vida Sue Cook

Vida Sue Cook, 83, of Richmond, IN, passed away early Sunday morning March 29, 2020. Born January 9, 1937, in Guntersville, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late John E. and Nellie Maude (Jackson) King. Vida retired from the Food Service Department of Earlham College and previously worked as a server with the F.W. Woolworth store at the Richmond Square Mall. She is preceded in death on December 31, 2018, by beloved husband of 44 years, Chester Dewey Cook; son Leroy Cook; daughter-in-law Rena Cook; grandson Vernon Lee Cook; and sisters and brothers Edna, Catherine, James King and Aubrey King. During her marriage to Orville Casteel she had 2 children; Ronnie Casteel and wife Anita, and Deborah Mays and husband Steve.

Donald A. Ward

Donald A. Ward, 95, of Fountain City, passed away on Sunday, March 29 at The Springs of Richmond. He was born in Centerville, Indiana on March 25, 1925, the son of Lester E., Sr. and Helen Marie Killen Ward. Don was a 17-year-old Hollansburg High School student when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on December 8, 1942. He served in the Pacific Theatre for the duration of World War Two and participated in the Battle of Peleliu in the Fall of 1944. He married the former Joan Thornburg on February 15, 1957.

Jerry M. Gideon

Jerry M. Gideon, 69, of Spiceland, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2020 at Hancock Regional Hospital. The son of Theodore and Nannie (Chew) Gideon, Jerry was a lifelong resident of Henry County and a 1968 graduate of Spiceland Academy. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol Gideon; his son, Brad Gideon; brothers, Tom (wife, Linda) Gideon of Spiceland, Ted Gideon of Modoc, and Richard Gideon of Hebron; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Carl, Melvin, Dennis and Donald; and three sisters, Bonnie, Mary and Margaret. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Phyllis June Templeton

RICHMOND, Ind. – Phyllis June Templeton, age 94, of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, March 29, 2020, at Reid Health. Born August 26, 1925, in Fairfield, Indiana, to George Bishop and Mary Opal Cromwell Balmain, Phyllis lived in Richmond for most of her life since she was 10 years old. She was an amazing drapery maker. Phyllis was a former member of Second Presbyterian Church.
