Leonard L. Shaffer Jr.

Leonard L. Shaffer Jr. 72 went to be with the Lord October 13, 2017 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 16, 1945 to Leonard and Velma (Wright) Shaffer Sr.

He was a member of the Laborers Union Local #1047 and then transferred to the Operators Union Local #103. He was Co-Chairman of the Richmond Rose Festival Parade and the Centerville Bi-Centennial Parade. He enjoyed displaying Christmas lighters and decorations in his yard every year. He was very family oriented and loved spending time with his wife, his girls, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

PERSHING, IND. – Melvin R. Harmeyer, 79, of Pershing passed away Tuesday evening, October 10, 2017, at Reid Hospital, following a brief illness. One of six children born to Edward and Matilda “Tillie” Laker Harmeyer on March 3, 1938, in Batesville, Indiana. He attended St. Gabriel School and was a 1956 graduate of Milton High School.

NEW CASTLE – William E. “Bill” Moistner, 84, passed away Wednesday morning October 11, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. A son of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Rogers) Moistner, Bill was born at home in rural Cambridge City, Indiana on March 27, 1933. Bill graduated from Bentonville High School in 1951. Bill liked to boast that he graduated in the top 10 of his class (only 10 in his class).

HAGERSTOWN – Mary Elizabeth Holcomb, 101 years old, passed away peacefully at Ambassador Healthcare in Centerville on Saturday morning October 7, 2017. A daughter of the late George and Crystal (Lannerd) Myers, Mary was born in Jacksonburg, Indiana, on August 6, 1916. Formerly of Knightstown, Mary was a longtime resident of Hagerstown and was a graduate of Hagerstown High School. Mary was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Hagerstown where she was a member of their sewing circle and the Losantville Eastern Star. She volunteered at the Hagerstown Thrift Store.

Born May 22, 1927, in Centerville, Indiana, to Omer and Iva McClerney Crowe, Julia lived in this community most of her life. She retired from Belden in 1993, after 34 years of service. Julia had also been involved in rental properties, real estate, and investments.

A daughter of the late Mitchell and Bonnie (Jasper) Wesley, Berniece was born in Kingby, Kentucky on May 15, 1927. Berniece moved to Lewisville, Indiana when she was six years old. She was a graduate of Lewisville High School with the class of 1945. Berniece had worked for Wesley’s IGA and Citizens State Bank in Lewisville and The Knightstown Dress Shop.

He was born on February 26, 1977 in Hamilton, Ohio to James Allen Roberts and Karlene Wilson Gray. He attended the Blooming Grove Family Worship Center in Blooming Grove, Indiana. He was a member of the Local 301 Carpenter’s Union of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Tressie Marie Boulware, 81, of Connersville, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, surrounded by her family at home. She was born on January 10, 1936, in Rush County, Indiana, and is the daughter of Robert Harold Bergen and Clara Leatha Cooksey Bergen, both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Orange High School in 1954. On August 7, 1954, she married Paul E. Boulware in Connersville. Together they were able to share 36 years before he passed on July 21, 1990.

SPICELAND- Judith Ann Johns, 68, passed away Friday evening October 6, 2017 at her home in rural Spiceland with her family at her side. Judith was born in Muncie, Indiana on February 10, 1949. She was raised in the Cowan community and graduated from high school there in 1967. Judy was employed at I.U.P.U.I. as secretary for the Dean of Schools for 16 years. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, Kiwanis and was a Master Gardener.
