Wayne County Sheriff’s Department responded to a serious injury crash Friday morning northwest of Williamsburg.

At 8:39 a.m., Wayne County officers were dispatched to the area of North U.S. 35 and Brooks Road on an inverted vehicle crash.

They located a 2003 Maroon Chevy inverted off the west side of the roadway in a ditch just south of 9036 U.S. 35 North.

The operator of the vehicle, Clayton Schnitker, 22, of Connersville, was trapped inside the driver compartment.

First responders from Williamsburg and Fountain City responded and worked to extricate Schnitker from the vehicle. He was treated on scene by Red Line EMS as well as Reid EMS.

Schnitker was transported from the scene to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, for treatment of injuries.

In a news release, Sheriff Randy Retter said an initial investigation indicates Schnitker was southeast on U.S. 35, when for an unknown reason, his vehicle traveled off the west side of the roadway.

The vehicle struck a driveway culvert at 9036 North U.S. 35 and went airborne. It continued south and overturned after landing, trapping Schnitker in the vehicle.

Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in the crash, Retter said.
