A Connersville, Ind., man was killed Friday, June 7, when police say the Ford Ranger truck he was driving left the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Indiana State Police troopers were called around 4:40 p.m. that afternoon to Fayette County Road 330 in the area of Everton Road for the report of the single-vehicle crash, according to a news release from Sgt. John Bowling.

The preliminary investigation by Trooper Bryan Rumple showed that a Ford Ranger Pickup, driven by James E. Rowe, 78, of Connersville, was northbound on County Road 330 from Everton Road when the truck went left of center in a curve.

As a car approached the curve from the opposite side (southbound), the driver of the truck over-corrected and drove off the right side of the road and struck a tree, police said.

A medical helicopter was summoned, but Rowe succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Rumple was assisted in his investigation by Trooper Aaron Edwards, Everton Fire and EMS, and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.
