D. Dean Smith, 68 of Richmond, IN passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones in his home in the early morning hours on February 20, 2021.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 27 at Stegall Berheide Orr Funeral Home at 1 pm and the calling is from 11 am-1 pm. We will be following COVID-19 guidelines according to the county and services are restricted to family only.
Dean was born June 14, 1952, and was preceded in death by his parents: Clarence and Sally Beatrice Smith, his sister: Beverly Sue Brusher, and his brothers: Jerry Smith and Clearance Smith Jr. Dean were from a large family of eight children. He is survived by his loving wife of over 23 years, Sandy Smith; his daughter, Kristy Tantillo; his son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Erika Smith; his stepson and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jason Barfield and Dr. Marissa Mapa; his brothers, Paul Smith and David and Becky Smith and sisters Sherrill Massey and Darlene McKnight; his grandson Ethan Smith; his granddaughter Brooklyn Barfield and great-granddaughter, Rory Smith; in addition to many cousins, friends, nieces, and nephews.
Dean worked at Wayne Works and then Carpenter Manufacturing for over 20 years—mostly in the paint department—and enjoyed hunting, watching NASCAR racing, and building race cars. He was a founding member of the Coon Hunter Association and enjoyed listening to bluegrass music.
