Dale L. Salyers passed away on November 27, 2021 at 8:30am after an extended illness. He passed away peacefully with his son, Michael by his side. He was born June 9, 1939 to Clyde and Mable Salyers.
He was a graduate of New Castle High School in 1958. Dale joined the US Navy in 1959 to see the world. He served in the blockade around Cuba during the Missile Crisis in 1962 and a Mediterranean tour. Upon being honorably discharged in 1963, he returned to New Castle and met the love of his life, Sandra K. Higgins and together raised a family.
After working at Ingersoll Steel for a short period, Dale began his work in law enforcement when he was hired to the New Castle Police Department in 1970. He served 22 years, 12 of those years as Chief of Police. Chief Salyers oversaw the modernization of the police department by converting the filing system from paper to computer, initiated the 911 Emergency System in Henry County and upgraded the marked-car fleet. Dale retired from the NCPD in 1992 and worked as security at Henry County Memorial Hospital, the Juvenile Center, and finally retired from the State of Indiana as a welfare and child abuse investigator.
He is survived by his children, Kelly Jo Huffines (Carman), Matthew K. (Toby), Michael S. (Deneva); grandchildren, Kristen Pinon-Bowers and Kyle Pinon along with his girlfriend Patty Harding, as well as many cousins.
Dale is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra K. Salyers; his parents, Clyde and Mable Salyers; a sister, Claudette Alumbaugh.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Macer-Hall-Marcum Funeral Home, 2011 East Broad St., New Castle, In., with Reverend Rick Evans officiating.
