David Alan Long, age 78, a New Castle resident, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield, Indiana. He was born June 11, 1942 in Connersville, Indiana and was the son of Arold Long and Hazel Neal Moore.
David served in the Vietnam War and retired as Master Sargent after 22 years of service from the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid NASCAR racing fan and he loved country music, bowling, and participating in pool tournaments. David was a member of the New Castle Veterans of Foreign Wars and a life member of the American Legion.
He is survived by a daughter, Teresa (husband, Jesse) Kaster of Rushville, Indiana; a son, Richard Long of Rushville; a stepdaughter, Cindy Davis (Kirby) of Greenfield; two stepsons, Alan Merrill of Greenfield, Indiana, and Albert (Melissa) Merrill of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Also, several nieces, nephews, and cousins survive.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Long in February of 2020; a brother, Gerald Long; an infant sister, Virna Sue; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Long; a step-granddaughter, Chelsey Merrill.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 14, 2021 at Macer-Hall-Marcum & Moffitt Funeral Home, 2011 East Broad Street, New Castle, Indiana. Burial following in South Mound Cemetery.
