David P. Malkemus 73, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at I.U. Ball Memorial Hospital. He was surrounded by his family and friends.
He was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. He went on several mission trips which was his joy. He worked for Dana Corporation in Hagerstown for 30 years as a skilled tradesman. He also enjoyed many years helping with the Boy Scouts of America.
He was a member of First Baptist church for many years. He was an elder and served in many ways there. He loved to serve the Lord. For several years Dave was a member of a team that visited jails regularly to share God’s love in Bible studies. He was also a member of a Men’s Promise Keepers Bible Study at First Baptist.
He was a NASCAR racing fan and will be remembered as one of the “Donut and coffee guys” who served treats and would welcome worshipers on Sunday mornings at First Baptist church. After retirement from Dana Corporation, Dave worked for Meek florist and Macer-Hall Funeral Home. Dave was an excellent Handyman and could fix or repair anything.
He was survived by his wife, Janet. They were married for over fifty-three years. He had three sons: Kelly, Chris (Jennifer), and James (Liz). He had six grandchildren: Ashley Malkemus of Indianapolis, Christopher (Sylvia) Malkemus of Ft. Hood, TX., Taylor Malkemus of Tuscaloosa, AL., Bailey Malkemus of Union, KY., as well as Julia and Jayna Malkemus both of McCordsville; his brothers: Don Malkemus of Hagerstown and Danny (Jo) Malkemus of Noblesville. He was blessed with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Minnie Malkemus and his sister Anita Collier all of New Castle.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018 at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center. Calling will continue Saturday, September 1 from 10 a.m. until noon, at which time the funeral begins. The Rev. Jerry Ingalls, Rev. Ken Durham, and Rev. Jerry DeHart, will co-officiate.
Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Garden. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate to your favorite charity in David’s name.
