David Skaggs, 59, of Richmond died February 4, 2018. He was born October 16, 1958 in Richmond. He served as a Deputy of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department 28 years, and worked 22 years at Lowe’s Home Improvements.
David was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a former board member and coach with the Hub Etchison Youth Football League. He coached football for Centerville High School 12 years and was also a member of the John Hennigar Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 63. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Notre Dame fan.
Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of 38 years, Lynda, two sons Derek (Courtney) Skaggs and B.J. (Lindsay) Skaggs of Centerville, one grandson James Skaggs, his father Tom (Polly) Skaggs, his mother Melissa Newkirk, one brother Steve (Debbie) Skaggs of Centerville, one sister Becky Skaggs of Richmond, one step brother John Newkirk Jr., one step sister Monica Paulin, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and his step father John Newkirk.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday February 9, 2018 at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Rev. David Eales officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Friends may call 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
