Obituaries - Donald Edward Ebacher

RICHMOND, Ind. – Donald Edward Ebacher, age 87, of Richmond, died Saturday, October 14, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born November 9, 1929, in Amesbury, Massachusetts, to Cleophas and Leah Bourque Ebacher, Don had lived in this community since 1967.

He was a 1947 graduate of Amesbury High School. Don served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He earned a registered nursing degree from Alexian Brothers School of Nursing, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Iowa in 1958, and a master’s degree from Indiana University in 1962. Don retired from the Richmond State Hospital in 1996 where he was the Director of Nursing. He was a member of GUTS Investment Club and 3rd and 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight. Don was active in Boy Scouts of America, enjoyed traveling, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his children, Steve Ebacher of Richmond, Mary (Norm) Ebacher Estridge of Everett, Washington, Ron (Denise) Ebacher of Centerville, IN, Pat (Jim) Steele of Scottsburg, IN, Ken Ebacher of El Paso, TX, and Ellen Ebacher Lewis of Richmond; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Elizabeth Scholtens Ebacher, who died February 23, 2015; parents; grandsons, Christopher and Joshua; two sisters; four brothers; and son-in-law, Jeff Lewis.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 19, 2017, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Friday October 20, 2017, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 235 South 5th Street. Private family burial will be in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana.
