Obituaries - Donald Eugene Rader Sr.

RICHMOND, Ind. – Donald Eugene Rader Sr., age 87, of Richmond, died Thursday, October 20, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born February 24, 1929, in Eaton, Ohio, to Elmer and Gladys Lunsford Rader, Don lived in this area all of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Don worked for more than 20 years in the Administration Building for Richmond Community Schools. He also worked alongside his father at Rader’s Greens Fork Sawmill. Don enjoyed his church, spending time with his family, and watching sports.

Survivors include his daughters, Brenda (James) Maupin and Teresa (Gary) Swejkar, both of Centerville, Indiana, and Pamela (Billy Paul) Sparks, Gladys Dreaden, and Darla May, all of Richmond; son, David Rader of Richmond; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sisters, Barbara (Willard) Brown and Peg Neeley, both of Richmond; daughter-in-law, Frances Rader; sisters-in-law, Betty Hunt, Donna Jean Bozarch, and Zola Rader; brother-in-law, Jack Toney; nieces; nephews; and loyal companion, his dog, Max.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Olive Toney Rader; sons, Donald Eugene Rader Jr., Gayland Rader, and Stuart Rader; parents; sister, Marjorie Neeley; brothers, Charles and Bob Rader; daughter-in-law, Sharon Rader; sisters-in-law, Connie Cook and Carolyn Riddle; brothers-in-law, Russell Neeley and Eddie Neeley; and great-grandson, Lane.

Visitation for Donald Eugene Rader Sr. will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. James E. Slaven officiating. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery.
