Donald F. Ashbaugh, age 95, of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Friends Fellowship Community.

Born October 14, 1926, in Lewisville, Indiana, to Floyd J. and Cecile Garver Ashbaugh, Don was a resident of Wayne County, Indiana, most of his life. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1944 and went on to graduate with his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1949. Don was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He retired in 1988 after 32 years as plant engineer at Natco, having previously worked seven years at Richmond Power and Light. Don was a charter member of Northside Church of Christ, where he was an elder and taught Sunday school. He was the secretary of Kiwanis Golden K for 18 years, an amateur radio operator with the call sign KB9UH, and a member of CARF (Christian Amateur Radio Fellowship), which relayed messages from missionaries. Don also stayed in contact with his college buddies who lived together at Purdue at the co-op house called Rochdale. The Rochdale gang met yearly in June, and twice yearly after they retired. This lasted for 60 plus years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his children, Jenny (Ron) Fernsler of Indianapolis, Indiana, Keith (Dee) Ashbaugh of Dayton, Ohio, David (Patty) Ashbaugh of Plainfield, Indiana, and Julie (Michael) Chitwood of Franklin, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren with one on the way; sister, Ruth McKee of Centerville, Indiana; nieces; nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Maxine Virginia Rust Ashbaugh, who died on January 6, 2015; parents; and sister, Dorothy Townsend.

Visitation for Donald F. Ashbaugh will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Minister Christian Penrod officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
