Obituaries - Donna I. Quillen

MILTON, Ind. – Deborah Lynn Shaffer, age 61, of Milton, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord after a short battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis.

Born July 17, 1956, in Richmond, Indiana, to Archie and Juanita Elaine Higgs Sartain, Debbie lived in Wayne County most of her life. She attended Centerville-Abington Community Schools and graduated from Richmond High School in 1974. Debbie worked in the telecommunication industry for several years and was a project manager for Carousel Industries. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Connersville, Indiana, where she taught Sunday school. Debbie volunteered at the Hope Center in Connersville. She enjoyed traveling and gardening and had a passion for interior decorating. Debbie loved spending time with her grandchildren. She always made others feel comfortable and accepted.

Survivors include her husband of 15 years, Danny Glenn Shaffer; sons, Joseph (Heather) Hilbert of Westfield, Indiana, Sean (Shaye Dickey) Hilbert and Eric (Stephanie) Shaffer, both of Indianapolis, Indiana; daughters, Emily (James) Slaven of Hagerstown, Indiana, and Elyssa (Scott) Mendenhall of Florida; 10 grandchildren, Maren, Dylan, and Kellen Hilbert, Jordan Proffitt-Hilbert, and Maddie and Lainey Shaffer, all of Indianapolis, Avery and Collier Slaven of Hagerstown, and Emma and Alex Mendenhall of Florida; sisters, Rhonda (Ken) Collins and Denise (Sonny) Klein, both of South Carolina; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; two uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation for Deborah Lynn Shaffer will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 27, 2017, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor John Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Lutherania Cemetery.
