Douglas E. Mullen, age 75, of Straughn, died Saturday afternoon (August 24, 2019) at his residence.

He was born in Henry County, Indiana, on June 5, 1944, to Floyd and Edna Polston Mullen and had lived in this area most of his life. He served 20 years in the U.S. Army retiring in 1983 with the rank of Sergeant Major. While serving in the Army, he received 5 Purple Hearts, 3 Bronze Stars, a Presidential Citation and numerous other awards and medals. Doug enjoyed fishing, antiques, gardening and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Jenny Creech Mullen; children Vickie (Lance) Ring of North Liberty, Micha (Shawna) Mullen of Centerville, Joseph (Rachel) Mullen of The Woodland, Texas; step-children Angel (Robbie) Brummett of East Bernstadt, Kentucky and Richard Harrison of Richmond; 10 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, 7 step-great grandchildren; sisters Judy Mullen and Lorna Mullen Howerton. He also leaves his companion dog “Sweetheart.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Ellen Jones Mullen, step-son Robbie Harrison, brothers Robert, Richard and Kenneth Mullen and sister Donna Mullen Burkman.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday (August 29, 2019) in Riverside Cemetery (Cambridge City, Indiana) . Rev. Jerry DeHart will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dayton VA Fisher House, Building 425, 4100 West 3rd Street, Dayton Ohio 45428.
