Dr. Richard Lee “Doc” Amick, 85, of Cambridge City passed away on Thursday, May 17. 2018.
Doc was born in Glenwood, IN on June 14, 1932. He graduated from Rushville High School in 1951. Following graduation he married his wife of 66 years, Sharlee Voiles on November 30, 1951 before leaving to join the U.S. Navy and served our country for over four years, including service in the Korean War. They had two sons together, Richard Kris (Rick) Amick and Michael Loren (Mike) Amick. He also went on to receive a Bachelors degree, Masters degree and Ph.D in education administration from Ball State University. He started his education career at Yorktown High School, first as an art teacher and then as Assistant Principal. He was also the Head Track and Field coach while at Yorktown. Doc then came to Cambridge City, IN where he served as Superintendent for many years and then went to Liberty Perry Schools and served as Superintendent before retiring in 1999. He stayed active in the Cambridge City area, serving on the Western Wayne School Board, as a mentor to students, Evening Kiwanis Club, and was a regular attendee of Lincoln High School sporting events. In his spare time he loved fishing, bird watching, travel, conversation and going to Cutshaw’s Market.
He is survived by his wife, Sharlee (Voiles) Amick; a son, Michael (Teresa) Amick; and a granddaughter, Emily Amick; a brother, William (Beverly) Amick; and two nieces.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Richard K. Amick in 2008.
Friends may gather from 10;00 am until start of services at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City. Pastor Max Milton will be officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City.
