Edna Cate, age 95, of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, May 6, 2018, at The Springs of Richmond.
Born October 15, 1922, in Berea, Kentucky, to John and Anna Robinson Abney, Edna lived in this community most of her life. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 60 years. Edna enjoyed collecting and growing various types of roses, reading, listening to Cincinnati Reds and Indiana Pacers games, and cooking large, family dinners. She loved being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Edna was a strong woman of faith.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn (Tom) Hemminger of Muncie, Indiana; son Ed (Brenda Crull) Cate of Richmond; grandchildren, Kevin Hemminger of Muncie, Jason (Nicki) Hemminger of Fishers, Indiana, and Rae Marie (Justin) Rader of Centerville, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Hayleigh, Kyleigh, and Charleigh Hemminger of Fishers and Conner, Ryanne, and Katie Rader of Centerville; sisters-in-law, Kathleen and Jo Abney; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Cate, who died July 25, 1989; sister, Geneva Jones; and brothers, Joe, Dick, Howard, Ralph, and Hubert Abney.
Visitation for Edna Cate will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Chaplain Ed McFarland officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
