Elizabeth Anne Schauss, age 53, of Greens Fork, Indiana, left us to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, May 27, 2018, at St. Vincent Home Health and Hospice.
Born September 14, 1964, in Richmond, Indiana, to Dr. William Ernie and Nancy Anne Allen Upchurch, Beth was a life-long resident of Wayne County. She was a 1982 graduate of Hagerstown High School and a 1986 graduate of Ball State University, where she also earned her master’s degree in education in 1991. Beth’s passion was her teaching career of 31 years. She just recently completed her 21st year as an educator with Centerville-Abington Community Schools. Beth had a special interest in literacy and loved teaching students to read or to become better readers. She was looking forward to returning to the Reading Recovery Program this coming school year. Beth was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association and the National Education Association.
Beth loved her family very much. She never missed an athletic event the boys played in or her husband coached. Beth loved the Centerville Bulldogs and especially the Bethel Pilots. She was an active member of Centerville Christian Church. Beth enjoyed being with her family at the lake, walking, cooking, traveling, time by her pool, scrapbooking, and watching sports.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Rick Jay Schauss; sons, Drew Schauss of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and Matthew (Kyla) Schauss of Mishawaka, Indiana; mother, Nancy Upchurch of Richmond; brothers, David (Donna) Upchurch of North Webster, Indiana, Steven Upchurch of Dallas, Texas, and Jeff (Yan) Upchurch of Hagerstown; nieces, Ashley (Ross) Kilgore of Bluffton, Indiana, and Rebecca Upchurch of Lafayette, Indiana; aunts, Jane (Don) Sturgeon of Hagerstown and Barb (Brian) Turner of Richmond; cousins; and many friends, colleagues, and students.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Visitation for Elizabeth Anne Schauss will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Centerville Christian Church, 111 North Morton Avenue, Centerville. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Centerville Christian Church with Pastor Wes Sewell officiating. Burial will be in Brick Cemetery in Hagerstown. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
