Ella Lillian Busick, age 96, of Richmond, Indiana, died Friday, May 6, 2022, at American Village in Indianapolis.

Born November 24, 1925, in Calhoun County, South Carolina, to Lide Moorer and Ermenia Gaskin Gates, Ella was a life-long resident of Richmond. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from East Carolina University, and her Master’s in Education from Ball State University. Ella taught for Richmond Community Schools for 36 years, having taught at Baxter, Parkview, and Charles Schools. She loved to travel and had visited 5 of the 7 continents, and 60 different countries. Ella also enjoyed crocheting. She was a Charter Member of Faith Trinity United Methodist Church and a former member of the Old National Trails Daughters of the American Revolution. Ella was instrumental in starting a church in her independent living center in Indianapolis.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Busick, of Huntington, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Connie Busick of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Abby Busick of Nashville, Tennessee, William Edsel Busick of Altamonte Springs, Florida, Marc (Catie) Hawkins of Severance, Colorado, Matthew (Rene) Hawkins of Grand Island, Florida, and Ashley (Joel) Rogers of Huntington; greatgrandchildren Mabel, Charlotte, Madeline, Annabelle, Paislee, Samuel, Maya, and Asher; nieces; nephews; and many friends, including numerous former students.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edsel Buhl Busick, who died November 6, 2011; parents; son, Thomas Edsel Busick; nine siblings; and son-in-law, Michael Manderick.

Visitation for Ella Lillian Busick will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Seaney officiating. Burial will be in the Veterans Field of Honor at Earlham Cemetery, beside her husband.
