RICHMOND, Ind. – Ernest Donald “Ernie” Cooper, age 85, of Richmond, Indiana, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 4, 2019, at his home.

Born January 28, 1934, in Rushville, Indiana, to Albert and Laura Richey Cooper, Ernie lived in Wayne County most of his life. He served in the United States Marine Corps. Ernie retired from Wayne Works in 1993 and formerly worked security at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for many years. He enjoyed driving the Amish, playing cards, and watching sports.

Survivors include his daughters, Amy (Tom) Fosdick of Richmond, Amanda Cox of Tampa, Florida, Patricia Cooper of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Shan (Paul) Kempton of Bloomington, Indiana; sons, Eric (Melissa) Cooper of Richmond and Curtis Cooper of Straughn, Indiana; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Katie (Herb) Ripberger and Anna Robertson, both of Richmond and Alma Sweet of Michigan; brother, Albert Cooper of Richmond; nieces; nephews; and many friends, including his five, loving fur babies.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Jane E. Cooper, who passed away March 10, 2017; sons, Kenny III and Scott Jordan; parents; sister, Dottie Osbourne; and brother, Carl Cooper.

Visitation for Ernest Donald “Ernie” Cooper will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2019, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Ted Chalk officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
