Fayette County has confirmed its first death related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and tests and cases continue to be diagnosed in eastern Indiana.
On Friday, March 27, Fayette County Health Department announced a man older than 80 died at Reid Health in Connersville on March 18. His COVID-19 test results were confirmed Friday.
The Fayette County resident also suffered from multiple underlying medical conditions, according to a press release from the health department.
“As the Fayette County Health Officer, it is with a heavy heart that I share the devastating news that we have experienced our first COVID-19 related death in our county,” said Dr. Wayne B. White.
As of late Friday night, Indiana has recorded 1,232 positive cases from Indiana State Department of Health and results from private laboratories.
The state has had 31 COVID-19 deaths, which includes two in Franklin County.
Franklin County has reported 23 cases of COVID-19.
Wayne and Henry County have each had one positive test from a resident.
Reid Health, which serves several counties, has had nine positive tests, 50 negative tests and 36 pending results as of Friday morning. They include both hospitalized and self-quarantining residents. Testing availability remains limited.
A total of 8,407 tests have been reported to ISDH.
