Floyd Herbert Legear, age 88, formerly of Richmond, Indiana, died Friday, October 22, 2021, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Born May 3, 1933, in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, to Thomas Peter and Ethel Hardin Legear, Floyd lived in Richmond most of his life until moving to North Carolina a year ago. He graduated from high school in 1951. Floyd proudly served in the United States Air Force Air Police and the Strategic Air Command, where he guarded nuclear weapons. Floyd worked as a lineman at Richmond Power & Light for 33 years before retiring. He was a member of Bethel Christian Church in Bethel, Indiana.

Survivors include his children, Diana (Hank) McGoey of Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, and Douglas (Dayan Watson) Legear of Greensboro; grandchildren, Douglas Legear Jr. of Connersville, Indiana, Scott Legear of Winchester, Indiana, Jeff Legear of Fairland, Indiana, Crystal McCoy of Winchester, and Ryan Hunt and Harry McGoey, both of Schuylkill Haven; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brother, Clyde Legear of Richmond.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jessica Legear; parents; and siblings, Allen Legear, Alberta Swinford, Madeline Abrams, and William and Jerry Legear.

Visitation for Floyd Herbert Legear will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Chaplain Rick Alvey officiating. The service will conclude with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard. Burial with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Pennsylvania.
