High school marching band and color guard competition returns to Indiana with a clinic on Friday and the first contest, the Archway Classic at Centerville Senior High School, on Saturday.

For students, staff, parents and fans, it is the start of the march toward Indiana State Fair Band Day on Aug. 5.

Two Wayne County bands will participate in the CITSA clinic July 16 at Monroe Central. Hagerstown will perform at 5:40 p.m. and Lincoln will perform at 5 p.m. Other participating bands include Cowan-Daleville Unified, Elwood, Eastbrook, Randolph Southern, Decatur County, Jay County, Henry County, Winchester, Frankton-Lapel, Union County, Cardinal Ritter and Monroe Central. The clinic is designed to allow bands to test their show on an audience and on judges in a non-competitive setting and to receive feedback from the judges.

This year, the Central Indiana Track Show Association, which oversees all of the contests preceding Indiana State Fair Band Day, has lifted its COVID restrictions for its competitions. Fans will be permitted to pack the grandstands and students will be permitted to be on the field for the award presentations.
