Frieda E. Dunlavy, 81, a resident of Knightstown passed away Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born June 6, 1941 in New Castle to the late Horace and N. Frances (Fouts) Wilson.

Frieda grew up on a farm raising pigs and was very active in 4-H. She retired from the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Children’s Home in 2007, where she taught Home Economics and Biology. She was a coordinator of the Knightstown Cheer Guild for 30 years. Frieda began her teaching career in Auburn and substitute taught in various school systems around the area. A 50 year member of Psi Iota Xi, she was also a Girl Scout Leader for 6 years.

Frieda was a member of the Knightstown United Methodist Church where she served on numerous boards and committees. She was also a member of Lydia’s Circle and went on several missions trips with the church. Frieda served on the Knightstown Library Board for 16 years and was named “Knightstown Citizen of the Year” in 2010. She enjoyed the Red Hat Society, gardening, baking pies and traveling, especially visiting Israel with her husband, Dan. Most of all, Frieda loved attending her grandchildren’s activities.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 15 years: Daniel Dunlavy, whom she married December 1, 2007; a daughter: Sarah Newcomer of Spencer; a son: Christian (Delayna) Newcomer of Greensfork; a step-daughter: Penny (Bill) Oxley of Riley; seven grandchildren: John Mader (Liz Hernandez), Donald Mader, Hayden Newcomer, Gavin Oxley, Danny Oxley, Megan Huff and Sarah Huff; three great-grandchildren and one on the way; brother-in-law: Glen (Angie) Newcomer; sister-in-law: Carolyn Titus; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband: Donald Newcomer; brother: Marvin Wilson; two brothers-in-law: Everett Newcomer and James Dunlavy; and a grandson: Ian Mader.

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Knightstown United Methodist Church with Pastor Joel Troxell officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 19 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel where there will be a Psi Iota Xi memorial service held at 7:45 P.M.
