Garrett D. Roberts, age 77, of Centerville, Indiana, died Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at IU Health Saxony Hospital in Fishers.
Born November 16, 1940, in Batesville, Indiana, to Roy and Pauline Hill Roberts, Garrett lived in Centerville most of his life. He was a 1960 graduate of Brookville High School and attended Indiana Business School and IU East. Garrett retired from Chrysler Corporation in New Castle, Indiana, after 31 years of service. He was a member of Harmony Lodge No. 11, F. & A.M.; Order of Eastern Star, where he was a past Worthy Patron; Centerville Lions Club; and Gideons International. Garrett was the co-founder of Centerville Classic Car Club. He was a member of Centerville United Methodist Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher. Garrett was a front desk volunteer at Reid Health and participated in the Rock Steady Boxing, Inc. for Parkinson’s disease. He loved automobiles, both old and new, including attending car shows and driving. Garrett enjoyed traveling to the Smokey Mountains, taking cruises, and going to the Blue Chip Casino. He had fun pulling pranks on people, especially when they didn’t know he was the culprit. Garrett was a wonderful husband and father.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Janice Chappell Roberts; brother-in-law, Raymond (Delores) Chappell of Michigan City, Indiana; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends, including his fur babies, Peiton and Jack.

He was preceded in death by his son, Garrett D. Roberts II; parents; sister, Cheryl (Bill) Downard; and brothers, Roy (Pearl) Roberts and Ralph Roberts.
The family would like to thank the Hospice staff of IU Health Saxony Hospital for the loving care and support they gave to Garrett.
Visitation for Garrett D. Roberts will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2018, with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. at Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, Centerville. Additional visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Mills Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 11: 00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Ted Chalk and Rev. Robert N. Malone officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
