NEW CASTLE- Gary D. Retz, 71, of rural New Castle, passed away Monday afternoon March 19, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
A son of the late Charles D. and Roberta S. (Stover) Retz, Gary was born in New Castle, Indiana on December 26, 1946. He lived most of his life in Henry County and was a 1964 graduate of Straughn High School.
Gary was a farmer and enjoyed working the ground, growing crops and raising hogs. To help support his love of farming, Gary also worked as a supervisor for Chrysler Corporation in New Castle from where he retired in 2001. Gary also graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelors Degree in Microbiology and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. In his leisure, Gary enjoyed playing cards and riding his motorcycle with his Goldwing Motorcycle Club of New Castle. Gary and his wife Jackie took pleasure in being “snowbirds” and wintering in Sebring, Florida.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, the former Jackie S. Lowhorn. They were married at the Straughn Christian Church on October 14, 1967. 2 daughters, Kameron (Burke) Warman of Straughn and Cheryl (Jeremy) Boling of New Castle; 3 grandchildren, Shaye (Staci) Warman of McCalla, AL, Kelcie (Nathan) Faddis of Richmond and Tallon Boling of New Castle; 1 great granddaughter, Addisyn Faddis; 1 brother, Larrie D. (Diane) Retz of Spiceland; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday March 24, 2018 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Pastor Chris Hubler will officiate. Burial will follow at the Lewisville Cemetery in Lewisville. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday March 23rd at the funeral home in Dublin.
