Gary Lee Guffey, age 71, a resident of Hillsboro and longtime resident of New Castle passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born November 25, 1948 in Albany, Kentucky, the son of Raymond and Betty Conner Guffey. He was a New Castle resident most of his life and graduated from New Castle Chrysler High School and received a degree from Ivy Technical School.
He was an Army Veteran and served a tour of duty in the Vietnam War where he was stationed in the Mekong Delta. Gary was a recipient of many military awards and recognitions. He loved family activities and his many friends and co-workers at Chrysler Corporation from which he retired after 32 years of service. He was a member of the U.A.W., Local 371 and was a sports enthusiast. Gary had coached Little League Baseball and served as a manager and President of the Little League Board of Directors.
He enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts Football, University of Kentucky sports and playing golf. Gary also loved working for Cardinal Hill Golf Course in Selma, Indiana the past several years. Gary will be sadly missed by many.
Left to cherish his loving memory include his wife, Joda Guffey, whom he married August 2, 1997; four children, Warren Guffey, Chris Lamb (Rachel), April Guffey, Joshua Shelton, Anna Shelton; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; mother, Betty Guffey of New Castle; two brothers, Donnie Guffey (wife, Susan) of Kokomo, Indiana, Greg Guffey (wife, Heather) of New Castle; one sister, Sarah Hoard (husband, Tony). Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Guffey and grandson, Caleb Guffey.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Macer-Hall-Marcum & Moffitt Funeral Home, 2011 East Broad Street with Greg Guffey officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens, New Castle. Friends may call 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 20, 2020 at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by a contingent from the US Army VFW and the American Legion. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
