Gertrude Carter, 94, of Richmond, Indiana, made her journey home on August 19, 2019. She departed this life peacefully at Golden Living Nursing Home.
She was born on November 6, 1924 in Allen, Alabama to Mary and Ellis Armstead.
Gertrude moved to Richmond, Indiana, in 1943 and was married to David Carter. To this union 3 boys and one girl was born. She was a long time member of Bethel A.M.E. Church and still received communion in her room until she was unable. She worked at Richmond School System, Richmond Baking Company and Belden Wire and Cable. Gertrude loved to grow beautiful plants and share them with family and friends. She was a prayer warrior and had amazing insight into people’s situation.
Gertrude is survived by her daughter Elaine Carter of Richmond, Indiana; two sons David (Pauline) Carter of Richmond, Indiana, and Eric Carter of Richmond, Indiana; daughter-in-law Ann Carter; grandchildren Kelly Walker of 29 Palms, CA., Derrick Carter of Fredericksburg, VA., Byron Moore of Richmond, Indiana, Nicky Childress of Richmond, Indiana, Larry Hampshire of Richmond, Indiana, Cottrell Carter of Fishers, Indiana and Cameron Carter of Richmond, Indiana; 9 great grands and 3 great-great grands;1 sister Frankie Carter; sister-in-law Annie Ruth Sanders; brother-in-law Robert Carter; she also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by husband David Carter; son Marvin Carter; grandson Neal Hampshire; 5 sisters and 3 brothers.

Calling hour was Monday August 26, 2019 from 9am-10am at Community Family Funeral Home.
Graveside service was Monday August 26, 2019 at Dayton National Cemetery.
