H. Wayne Major, age 92, of Rock Hill, died Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Born July 2, 1930, in Carthage, Ohio, to Roscoe E. and Mildred M. Skinner Major, Wayne lived in Richmond most of his life. He was a 1949 graduate of McGuffey High School in Oxford, Ohio. After graduation, Wayne joined the United States Army, served in Korea and was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked in sales and management for Long’s grocery stores. Wayne enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and going to the casinos.

Survivors include his daughter, Jana Major of Richmond; son, David (Linda) Major of Rock Hill, South Carolina; grandchildren, Ryan (Rebecca) Major, Emily (Derrick) Land, and Kyle (Megan) Major, all of Charlotte, North Carolina; eight great-grandchildren, Clara, Calvin, Dominick, Davis, James, Samuel, William, and Elizabeth; cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Betty Lou Hobbs Major; third wife, Frances Thompson Major; and parents.

Visitation for H. Wayne Major will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. John Luerman officiating.
