A COVID-19 positive person attended a July 31 event in Wayne County, and now health department officials say they are trying to find that person’s close contacts.
In the same press release, the health department says at least 10 Northeastern High School students are quarantining for 14 days after coming into contact with a school staff member who has tested positive.

Williamsburg event
At 7 p.m. Friday, July 31, an event took place at the Williamsburg Community Gym, 8441 N. Centerville Road in Williamsburg.
Anyone who attended the event might have been exposed to a positive COVID-19 person, according to Christine Stinson, executive director of Wayne County Health Department.
The health department is having difficulties identifying the close contacts from this event and is asking for anyone who attended to watch for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 including headache, fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, nausea/vomiting and diarrhea, new loss of taste or smell, runny nose and chills.
Anyone who attended the event should be vigilant by wearing a mask in public and practice physical distancing of at least 6 feet. Anyone who is experiencing symptoms should be tested and isolate for 10 days from the start of symptoms.
Those who attended this event and would like to talk to the health department are asked to call (765) 973-9245.

Northeastern
The health department has been notified of a COVID-19 positive case in a staff member connected to Northeastern High School.
Stinson said the health department has been in close contact with the school to identify and notify any staff or student who has been identified as a close contact of the COVID-19 positive person. The case investigation is ongoing.
At least 10 Northeastern High School students have been placed in the 14-day quarantine period.
Any student, teacher, or staff with a question regarding this case is asked to contact the health department at (765) 973-9368.
