Jack E. Ingerman, age 91, a New Castle resident, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021. He was born May 27, 1930 in New Castle, Indiana, a son of James Richard and Olive Weaver Ingerman.
He was a lifelong resident and a graduate of New Castle High School. Jack was a veteran of the Korean War where he served with the United States Army from May 7, 1951 until April 23, 1953 in 2nd PLT 68th. MP Co. He was a recipient of several military awards and recognitions. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Jack had a wonderful career with the New Castle Courier Times that started as a paper carrier in 1940 before retiring in 1994 as The Courier-Times Publisher. In 1985 many of the newspaper employees were interviewed and indicated that Jack was the informal leader of the Courier-Times and that everyone counted on Jack to get things done. It was estimated that Jack had worked on about 15,000 editions of the Courier-Times before his retirement. Jack had been a rock and the solid foundation on which the newspaper built much of its success for a long time. In addition, he enjoyed any family activity, woodworking, Chicago Bears Football, Chicago Cubs Baseball, and NASCAR Racing.
Left to cherish his loving memory include a daughter, Jody Ingerman of Lebanon, Indiana; a son, James E. Ingerman of New Castle, Indiana; two grandchildren, Cassandra (husband, Robert) Simpson and James I. (wife, Chelsea), Ingerman, both of New Castle, Indiana; eight grandchildren, A.J. Ingerman, Jasmine Simpson, Andrew Villano, Isaiah Simpson, Joseph Simpson, Jack Simpson, Lily Anne Simpson, Magnolia Simpson; one brother, Paul (wife, Bonnie) Ingerman of New Jersey; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Doris Coers Ingerman in 2019.
Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 3, 2021 at South Mound Cemetery, Westlawn addition. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army, VFW, and American Legion. The funeral directors and staff of Macer-Hall-Marcum & Moffitt Funeral Home, 2011 East Broad St., New Castle, are honored to serve the Ingerman family.
