Obituaries - James “Jim” Hillard

James “Jim” Hillard, 86, of Richmond, passed away with his wife and daughter Lynda by his side November 13, 2017 at his home after a long illness.

He was born May 7, 1931 in Richmond to Herbert and Sara Rob Vertrees Hillard and lived here all of his life.
He was a Navy Veteran serving in Korea on the USS #DDR805 Chevalier.

He retired from NATCO after 32 years; he worked as a part time painter and owned H & H Steam Extraction.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church; he was a member the NATCO 25 year club, American Legion Harry-Ray Post 65, VFW Post 1472, the Tin-Can Sailors, and was active in his ship’s annual reunion.

He loved NASCAR, Notre Dame Football, I.U. Basketball, and sports of all kind.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Karen Hillard-Todd, three children Kathy Bongers of Sheridan, Todd (Lisa) Hillard of Carmel, Lynda (Dave) Skaggs of Richmond, six grandchildren Jeremy (Jennifer) Voss, Alicia Voss, Derek (Courtney) Skaggs, B.J. (Lindsay) Skaggs, Samantha Hillard, Christopher Hillard, six great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother William Hillard.

Services were 1:00PM Friday November 17, 2017 at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Deacon Frank Roberts officiating; burial was in St. Andrew Cemetery with military honors. Friends called from 11:00AM to 1:00PM Friday at the funeral home.
