James Lee Taylor, 76, passed away at Brickyard Healthcare – Golden Rule Care Center on Monday afternoon, June 27, 2022.

Born on September 23, 1946, Jim was the son of Robert and Ruth Whitton Taylor. He lived most of his life in Abington, with his wife Catherine Nocton Taylor. They were married on July 11, 1970, and together celebrated almost 52 years.

A member of the Abington Township Volunteer Fire Department for many years, Jim enjoyed listening to music and loved many outdoor activities such as hunting, four-wheeling, and producing plentiful gardens when his health allowed, however, fishing always topped his list. He was famous for providing family and friends with a fish fry featuring catfish and often mushrooms after a good hunt. For over 40 years, he worked for the same business that had several names, including Wallace Sheet Metal, Johnson Sheet Metal, Premdor, and Masonite.

He is survived by wife, Catherine Taylor; daughters, Rebecca (Don) Tincher and Kimberly (Gary) Jenkins; sons Christopher (Jennifer) Taylor and Michael (Brandi) Taylor; grandchildren Ryan Tincher, Michael Jenkins, Peter Jenkins, Jacob Jenkins, Taylor (Carter) DeWitt, Ian Taylor, Seth Taylor, Jordan (Jessie) McCaslin, Zach (Kristin) McCaslin, A.J. Taylor (fiancé Emma), Alexys Taylor and Aiden Taylor. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren; many cousins; nieces; nephews; lifelong friends; and fishing buddies.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joyce (Louie) Chaney and brother William E. “Bill” (Jane) Taylor.

Per Jim’s request, arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home with no services, but a possible memorial gathering is being planned for a later date. The family would like to thank SouthernCare Hospice and his favorite employees at Brickyard Healthcare – Golden Rule Care Center for the care and love he received, especially Brandy, Jessica, Ann, Tammy and Suzi.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be sent to the Abington Township Volunteer Fire Department, 4618 Pottershop Road, Centerville, IN 47330. The family would like to thank those volunteers who provided Jim with help and assistance on many occasions, day and night.
