James R. Slagle Jr., of Cambridge City was born in Batesville on March 24, 1946, a son to Rev. James and Mildred Louise Baker Slagle. James was a veteran with the United States Navy. Throughout his life he worked at Philco Ford, D & M, and also drove a semi.

James was a member of Lighthouse Gospel Tabernacle and Veterans of America Chapter 295. He had a love for race cars, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren.

On Thursday, July 11, 2019 at the age of 73, James passed away unexpectedly at home.

Those surviving who will cherish James memory include his mother, Mildred Slagle; three children, Abigail (Nathan) Ulerick of Dublin, Scott Slagle of Brookville, and Nathan Slagle of Brookville; three sisters, Donna (Charles) Schwarz of Connersville, Mary Jane (John) Kesler of Metamora, and Connie Sue (Daniel) Sizemore of New Palestine; companion, Brenda DeVaughn of Cambridge City; three grandchildren, Nathan Slagle Jr., Brody and Brenlin Ulerick; and several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his father, Rev. James R. Slagle; a sister, Betty Jean; and a brother, Jerry Lewis.

Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Metamora Church of God, 20125 US Highway 52, Laurel, Indiana 47024. Burial with military honors will follow in Cupps Chapel Cemetery.
