James Thomas “Tommy” Smith, age 69, of Richmond, Indiana, died Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Reid Health.

Born February 21, 1952, in Elihu, Kentucky, to Lenville and Marie Pappas Smith, Tommy lived in Wayne County, Indiana, most of his life. He was a 1970 graduate of Centerville High School. Tommy served in the U.S. Navy from 1971-77. He worked at Belden for 15 years before moving to Indianapolis, Indiana, to work as a mechanic at Walmart for 10 years. Tommy was a member of VFW Kirk-Little Post 1108. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, shooting pool, and throwing darts. According to his sister, Tommy was the best brother ever. He loved his family very much and will be missed.

Survivors include his sister, Wilda (John) McKee of Whiteland, Indiana, and nieces, Holly Marie Catt, Heather René Lowery, and Lori Ann Hagarty.

He was preceded in death by his son, James Thomas “Tommy” Smith Jr. and parents.

There will be no public services for James Thomas “Tommy” Smith. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
