Jamie Lee Cooper, age 89, of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Reid Health.
Born September 13, 1928, in Richmond, Indiana, to Ralph and Esther Armacost Cooper, Jamie lived in this community most of her life. She attended Richmond schools and graduated high school from Fairfax Hall Junior College in Virginia. Jamie then attended the Cincinnati University School of Art. She worked at the Wayne County Courthouse and was also an artist, illustrator, and award-winning author. Some of Jamie’s books include: Grasshopper Summer, The Great Dandelion, and The Horn in the Forest. She also wrote an operetta that was performed in Richmond, as well as in Denver, Colorado, and was a contributing writer to several periodicals.
Survivors include her cousins, Jim Helms of Brookville, Indiana, Bill Bass of Texas, and others and special friends, including M. Beth Symons of Indianapolis, Indiana, Keith Boehme of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Seth Thomas of Richmond.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Cooper and mother and stepfather, Esther and Leo Kellner.
The family wishes to acknowledge with gratitude the medical community, as well as the friends who supported Jamie in so many ways during her final years.
A memorial service for Jamie Lee Cooper will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2018, at First Friends Meeting, 2010 Chester Blvd., Richmond. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
