Jeremy Lee Hicks, 38, passed away at his home in Spiceland on Wednesday morning, October 9, 2019 after a long fight with cancer.

Jeremy is survived by his wife of 15 years, Shannon (Hawks) Hicks; daughters Samantha Hicks and Karly Underwood (husband: Jake); parents Joe and Debbie Hicks; and granddaughter Avery Underwood.

Meeting Jeremy Hicks was a testament to the fault in first impressions; unless you were a linebacker for the Colts—which he often was mistaken for—you’d likely be intimidated by his looming figure. But getting to know Jeremy, you’d quickly realize that he’d be more likely to ask you about your folks than ask to take you outside.

Born November 5, 1980 in Oceanside, California, Hicks was known early in his life around Henry County as a standout football player, graduating from Tri High School in 1999. Later, he was just known—as friend, as coach, as a ten-year employee at Vectren, or as member of New Lisbon Christian Church. However you first met Jeremy, you felt like the next time you met him, he’d probably call you “bub.”

Though unmistakably noticeable at 6’ 8”, Jeremy’s most impactful works went unnoticed. From mission trips in the Dominican Republic to serving at church and helping those less fortunate, Hicks was the true embodiment of serving the Lord without need for recognition. After cracking a “no problem,” Hicks would go about his life even after changing yours.

Services for Jeremy Hicks will take place at New Lisbon Christian Church. Visitation hours will take place October 18, 2019 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. The Celebration of Life will take place October 19 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for contributions to New Lisbon Christian Church. The donations will benefit the children’s ministry projects. Arrangements were entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
