Joan E. Michaels, 79, of Richmond died June 9, 2021, at Ambassador Health Care after a long illness. She was born May 13, 1942, in West Virginia to Russell and Dama Sexton Purvis and lived here most of her life. She formerly worked at D&J homes and retired from Work One. Joan was a member of the Southview Church of the Nazarene. Joan’s family wishes to express their gratitude to Ambassador Health Care and Reid Hospice for the care they gave during her illness.

Survivors include three daughters Dreama Dill, Angela (Bruce) Elsrod, and Lori (Jodi) Gindling, two step-sons Mark (Gwen) Michaels and Ronald (Mary) Michaels, seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, one sister Mary McCurdy, nieces and nephews, and a special friend Sue Butler.

Her husband Warren James Michaels died on March 17, 2009, she is also preceded in death by one granddaughter, her stepdaughter Karen Jones, two brothers Dallas and Johnny Purvis, and one sister Louise Krantz.

Funeral services for Joan will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 14, 2021, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Chaplain Rick Alvey and Rev. Matt Smith officiating. Her burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
