Joanna Stevens, 82, of Connersville, while surrounded by her friends and family at Glen Oaks (Legacy Lane) Health Campus in New Castle, Indiana, gave both of her hands to God on May 20th so that she could be eternally reunited with her husband, James E. Stevens.
Joanna was born March 14, 1936, to Hubert and Ethel Whitten, Connersville, Indiana. She has five brothers, Ronald, Lowell, Gerald (Fern), Keith and Jerry (Vesta) Whitten. Joanna graduated in 1955 from Connersville High School. She met and then married the love of her life, James on March 24, 1957. They had two sons, Mark (Denise) Stevens, of Cambridge City and Brian (Connie) Stevens, of Centerville, Indiana.
She loved and enjoyed every moment with her grandchildren, Justin (Melissa) Stevens and their children, Carson and Madelyn. Nathan (Megan) Stevens and their daughter, Olive. Brandon Stevens and their son, Reagan James. She loved and enjoyed her two granddaughters, Marissa and Kelsey Stevens. She also loved the moments spent with her nieces and nephews.
Joanna was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Connersville, where she was a soprano in the choir. She also was a member of the “In & Around” club of Milton, Indiana. She proudly researched and informed the members of current “health and safety” issues.
She collected hundreds of angels and read every book, and devotional she (we) could find her. Joanna delighted in knowing that after loving and being with all the angels here on earth, that someday she would be with them in heaven, to watch over the ones left here. She wants to sing and rejoice with God and his choir.
Joanna was reunited with her parents, her brothers, Ronald, Jerry (Vesta), Lowell and Gerald Whitten, and her beloved “guard dog,” Freckles.
