As a result of a lengthy illness, John passed away peaceably on November 11, 2017.
He was born on February 23, 1953 to Ruth Weaver Heis and Leonard Heis.
John graduated from Lincoln High School and then Purdue University with a civil engineering degree (land surveying). John worked many years on the family farm (poultry operation) as well as many construction projects with his brother Chuck.
An avid reader, John loved science fiction the most, but would read almost anything. His other interests included aviation, math, and working on building plans. John was well known for his wit and excellent sense of humor and loved to share those with everyone. He also loved to share humorous stories with anyone he encountered. Some would say if you had by chance met him you would not forget him.
John is survived by his mother Ruth Heis and his two older brothers David and Chuck Heis.
His younger brother Paul died on June 16, 2017 at the age of 59.
We wish to thank the staff of Ambassador Healthcare for their excellent care and attention to John during his stay. John did not want a funeral service but stated an unorganized party is always welcomed!
